The Book Addiction Tag

Hey guys! Book tags are always so fun and I was tagged for this one by Jordyn so go on and give her post some love. I believe this tag originated from this post? But not 100%.

Book Tags

1. WHAT IS THE LONGEST AMOUNT OF TIME YOU CAN COMFORTABLY GO WITHOUT PICKING UP A BOOK?

It really varies. Right now…I haven’t really sat down to read in like a week. We did just move, though, so that’s why. Normally I try to read every day but if I’m especially busy, I don’t mind going a couple days without.

2. HOW MANY BOOKS DO YOU CARRY ON YOUR PERSON (OR KINDLE) AT ANY ONE TIME?

I always have my Kindle with me. ALWAYS. It’s one of those things that I make sure every purse is big enough to carry and it always makes the transition from my purse to diaper bag and back. My Kindle then has all of my eBooks on it so…dozens.

3. DO YOU KEEP EVERY BOOK YOU BUY/RECEIVE OR ARE YOU HAPPY TO PASS THEM ON TO MAKE SPACE FOR MORE?

I used to have a hard time getting rid of books, but between these last three moves, I’ve really started getting of anything I don’t think I’ll read again or think that I can get easily from the library. Now, I have the policy of deciding whether or not I would reread each book as I finish it. If not, it immediately goes in a pile to donate.

4. HOW LONG WOULD YOU SPEND IN A BOOKSHOP ON A STANDARD VISIT?

That’s so hard to say…I usually only go into a bookstore with an agenda. I don’t really browse much. Being so active in the book blogosphere and Goodreads, I’m not really looking for more things to read, you know? So…maybe like 10 minutes. It depends how long the line is.

5. HOW MUCH TIME PER DAY DO YOU ACTUALLY SPEND READING?

Again, this really varies. I just transitioned to being a full-time stay-at-home-mom so I think (hope) I’m going to have more time to read–I just have to figure out where it fits in. Before all of this though, I’d read for probably at least an hour every night. It depends how into a book I am. The more into a book I am, the more of a priority I make it.

6. WHERE DOES THE TASK ‘PICKING UP A BOOK’ APPEAR ON YOUR DAILY TO-DO LIST?

On my personal to-do list? High. On my household to-do list? At the bottom unfortunately. If my baby lets me, I’ll get some reading time.

7. HOW MANY BOOKS DO YOU RECKON YOU OWN IN TOTAL (INCLUDING EBOOKS)?

According to my Goodreads, I have 253. But I’m not sure how accurate that is. Like, I’m not sure if I’ve actually added all of the books I own to my Goodreads. Or taken off the ones that I donated for that matter…

8. APPROXIMATELY HOW OFTEN DO YOU BRING UP BOOKS IN CONVERSATION?

Sometimes. Especially if someone asks what I like to do, I usually mention reading. I do have a couple of friends who know that I’m passionate about reading and blogging and they’ll ask what I’m reading sometimes.

9. WHAT IS THE BIGGEST BOOK (PAGE COUNT) YOU HAVE FINISHED READING?

Maybe Winter by Marissa Meyer? That’s 827 pages.

10. IS THERE A BOOK YOU HAD TO GET YOUR HANDS ON AGAINST ALL ODDS (I.E., SEARCHING BOOKSHOPS, ONLINE DIGGING, ETC)?

It wasn’t too bad, but I asked for a copy of The Christmasaurus by Tom Fletcher for Christmas a couple of years ago, but it hadn’t been published in the US yet. So my husband ended up having to go on eBay to get me a copy (he’s a good one). So like I said, not too bad, but there were some hoops. Now it’s been published in the US so I should’ve just waited haha.

11. A BOOK YOU STRUGGLED TO FINISH BUT REFUSED TO DNF?

I currently have The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater on pause. I’ve heard awesome things about it, but haven’t been able to get very far into it. I just started it at a bad time. I have it on my Kindle and I try to only read one book on my Kindle at a time. Then shortly after I started it, I’ve had ARC after ARC coming up from NetGalley. So…it’s on pause. Not DNFed, just paused.

12. WHAT ARE THREE OF YOUR MAIN BOOK GOALS FOR 2019?

I did make a post about this at the beginning of the year, but here are a few of my goals:

  1. Reread the Harry Potter books
  2. Read The Book Thief
  3. Read VE Schwab books (this is the only one I’ve semi-completed)

13. HAVE YOU EVER HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF CONVERTING SOMEONE INTO A READER (MAYBE VIA INSPIRATION OR INCESSANT NAGGING)?

I’ve definitely inspired my husband to read a little more. He didn’t used to read for fun at all basically, but he’s gotten into a few different authors now and on rare nights, we’ll read in bed together.

14. DESCRIBE WHAT BOOKS MEAN TO YOU IN FIVE WORDS

Only thing better–more reading

BOOK TAG: Two Truths and a Lie!

Book Tags

I was tagged for this by Comfort Reads!

Rules:
      • Create a post with your two bookish truths and one bookish lie – but be sure to keep it a secret so your readers can guess
      • Reveal the lie in a spoiler at the bottom of your post (you can use this HTML code:

Guess which of these three is a lie!

1. For a period of time when I first started college, I stopped reading.
2. I’ve read through the entire Harry Potter series three times.
3. The most books I’ve read in a year (since I started tracking) is 175.

Ready for the lie?

Number two! I keep trying to reread the Harry Potter series but can’t seem to get past number four. It’s a goal for this year though!

BOOK TAG: Books I WANT to read, but don’t want to READ

Book Tags

Jami over at Jamishelves created and posted this tag a couple weeks ago. I’m not usually a book tag kind of blogger, but this one seemed really fun! So even though I wasn’t tagged, I’m doing it anyway!

Rules:

  • Link back to the original tag (@Jamishelves)
  • Complete the questions with books you want to have read but don’t want to read
  • Tag some people at the end to do the tag next

1: A book that you feel you need to read because everyone talks about it

  • The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton

This is a book that has just never appealed to me for whatever reason. I keep hearing great things about it and about the sequel, but I’m just not into the premise!

The Belles

2: A book that’s really long

  • Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke

This baby is over 1,000 pages. I repeat, OVER 1,000 PAGES. That’s literally like three normal sized books combined.

Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell

3: A book you’ve owned / had on your TBR for too long

  • The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E Pearson

I asked for this book for Christmas the year it came out (which I guess wasn’t that long ago, but it feels really long ago). I’d read the first two and couldn’t remember much. So I told myself I would wait to read this one until I’d reread the first two and now…it’s just been sitting on my shelf.

The Beauty of Darkness

4: A book that is ‘required’ reading
(eg, school text, really popular classic – something you feel obligated to read!)

  • Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

The old answer for this was Wuthering Heights, but I finally read that last year (the year before?). Spoiler: not worth it, imo. But this one I’m a little more excited for because I really liked My Plain Jane.

Jane Eyre

5: A book that intimidates you

  • The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling (reread)

This is a bit of a cheat, but I have been meaning to reread the Harry Potter books forever. I read them as they were coming out and I’ve attempted rereads since (most notably when I got my wisdom teeth out) but I can never seem to get past the fourth book! It’s just such a commitment and the books just get longer.

harry potter series

6: A book that you think might be slow

  • The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden

Apparently, I really liked the first two books, but at this point I can’t remember why? I remember the books are slow reads (for me at least) even though they contain some action. I’m just worried this book will be slow and I don’t have the motivation to pick it up.

The Winter of the Witch

7: A book you need to be in the right mood for

  • Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray

While I liked the first book (The Diviners), it was long and had a lot of loose ends. It was obviously setting things up for the rest of the series, so I feel like I’m really going to need to be in the right mood to finish.

Lair of Dreams

8: A book you’re unsure if you will like

  • Dread Nation by Justina Ireland

Another book that I’ve only heard good things about, but I have a thing about zombies. I. DO. NOT. LIKE. ZOMBIES. Especially on TV/in movies, but also in books. But like the rest of the premise sounds really good, and like I said, everyone’s been RAVING about it (it has a freaking 4.17 rating on Goodreads).

BOOK TAG: Sailor Moon Book Tag

I was tagged by Deanna over at A Novel Glimpse, thanks for the tag! It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these and I admit to having never seen an episode of Sailor Moon (sorry guys!)

MOON: A BOOK THAT MAKES YOU HUNGRY

The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman – Just everything the Hempstock’s make… Please get in my mouth.

MERCURY: A BOOK THAT FEATURES SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Ten Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray – I could have also put the first book for this one, but I feel like the second one was a tad more science-y.

VENUS: A BOOK THAT MAKES YOU WANT TO PLAY VIDEO GAMES

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline – This book makes me want to play ALL THE GAMES mentioned in the book. I especially like the idea of the movie line one…that one would be way fun.

MARS: A BOOK INSPIRED BY MYTHOLOGY OR FOLKLORE

Impossible by Nancy Werlin – This book is a really interesting take on the Scarborough Fair song. I read it way back when I was in junior high or high school and then again more recently–it’s not necessarily what you’d expect, but I liked it.

JUPITER: A BOOK THAT GAVE YOU STRONG FEELINGS

Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson – Seriously…very strong feelings.

SATURN: A POST APOCALYPTIC BOOK YOU LOVE

I honestly don’t think I’ve ever LOVED a Post-Apocalyptic book. But let me just get something off my chest. Post-Apocalyptic books and Dystopian books are NOT the same thing. There are times when a dystopian society has emerged after an apocalyptic event, but I would generally classify those as Dystopian books. Post-Apocalyptic to me will usually start in a pretty normal world, we’ll see the apocalyptic event, and then we’ll follow our main character through the aftermath. OR the book starts immediately after the apocalyptic event has occurred. Examples: Gone by Michael Grant or The Arcana Chronicles by Kresley Cole. Not Examples: The Hunger Games, Divergent, or The Maze Runner. Okay, I’ll get off my soapbox now.

PLUTO: A TIME TRAVEL BOOK

Passenger by Alexandra Bracken – Overall, I thought this book was pretty good and it’s one of the few time travel books that I’ve read. I’m excited to see where the next book takes us.

URANUS: A BOOK FEATURING ELEMENTAL MAGIC

Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson – If this isn’t elemental magic, then I don’t know what is.

NEPTUNE: A BOOK FEATURING MUSIC

Just Listen by Sarah Dessen – Can I even get through any kind of list without mentioning my queen?

Honorable Mention: Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson – I can’t remember if music is ever explicitly mentioned in the book, but it does feature Roger’s awesome playlists.

TUXEDO MASK: A BOOK WITH MASQUERADES OR HIDDEN IDENTITIES

Tangled Webs by Lee Bross – I’ll be honest, I don’t remember too much about this book, but I know there are masquerade balls and I think I liked it a fair amount.

RINI/CHIBI MOON: A FAVORITE MIDDLE GRADE BOOK

Wonder by R.J. Palacio – This book was definitely impactful for me–I feel like every kid should read it sometime in elementary school.

LUNA, ARTEMIS & DIANA: A BOOK FOR ANIMAL LOVERS

Whippoorwill by Joseph Monninger – If you love dogs then Hi, this book is for you. There are some parts that are harder to read RE: The dog, but the ending has all the doggy feels.

I tag anyone else who wants to do it! (Because #lazy).

BOOK TAG: Totally Should’ve… Book Tag

Thank you Deanna @A Novel Glimpse for tagging me! I got tagged for this a while ago, but am only now getting around to doing it.

Totally Should’ve Gotten A Sequel

Pride and Prejudice. I know there are a lot of “sequels” to this, but I can’t help but imagine what a sequel by Jane Austen would actually be like…so magical.

Totally Should’ve Had A Spin-Off Series

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. There is definitely still the possibility of this, but I need a series based on Kitty as a teenager. Like seriously. This is a NEED.

Totally Should’ve Ended Differently

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. I felt tremendously underwhelmed by this book. The ending was just plain strange.

Totally Should’ve Had A T.V . Show

I’m not really a fan of books that become TV shows because it feels like a TV show is indefinite while a book is not. That being said, perhaps The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. I could see that being good maybe…

Totally Should’ve Had A Film Franchise

Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin. I LOVE THIS BOOK. Please let’s see this as a movie. PLEASE.

Totally Should’ve Had One Point of View

Allegiant by Veronica Roth. The first two books are just Tris and yeah, I get why we needed to have Four’s perspective now, but I still didn’t like it.

Totally Should’ve Had A Cover Change

Kissing in America by Margo Rabb. I don’t really get the cover and I don’t feel like it fits the book. I’m not exactly sure what would fit though…

Totally Should’ve Stopped Reading

Stephanie Perkins’ books. I keep trying them because I think I might like them or they might get better, but so far I really haven’t enjoyed any of them that much.

Totally Should’ve Kept The Cover

All of Sarah Dessen’s books. I hate the new cover changes!

Totally Shouldn’t Have Pre-judged

Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson. I prejudged this book hardcore based on both the cover and the blurb. It’s really so much deeper than you might think just based on the summary.

BOOK TAG: The Book Sacrifice Tag

I was tagged by Deanna @A Novel Glimpse 🙂

1. An Over-Hyped Book:

Situation: You’re in a store when the zombie apocalypse hits. The military informs everyone that over-hyped books are the zombies only weakness. What book that everyone else says is amazing but you disliked do you start chucking at the zombies?

I would immediately go for one of two books: The Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard or Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige. I know that so many people liked both of these books, but neither one lived up to the hype for me.

2. A Sequel:

Situation: torrential downpour. What sequel are you willing to use as an umbrella to protect yourself?

Ten Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray. While it would pain me to destroy such a beautiful cover, the book itself was just kind of “meh” in my opinion.

3. A Classic:

Situation: You’re in English class and your professor raves about a Classic that “transcends time”. If given the opportunity to travel back in time, which Classic would you try to stop from ever publishing?

I don’t really know…I feel like all classics have some merit. I mean…they’re a classic book for a reason, right? If I had to pick one though…maybe Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. Sorry, nothing personal, I just really hated having to read/analyze/discuss/write about that book in 9th grade.

4. A Least Favorite Book:

Situation: apparently global warming = suddenly frozen wasteland. Your only hope of survival for warmth is to burn a book. Which book will you not regret lighting?

What You Left Behind by Jessica Verdi. Sorry if you loved this book, but I just could not sympathize with the main character. The whole book just really ticked me off.

BOOK TAG: Unpopular Opinions Book Tag

I was tagged by Deanna @A Novel Glimpse! She always tags me for these at just the right time (i.e. When I don’t have a post already scheduled for the day).

 1. A popular book or series you didn’t like.

I know I’m going to get a lot of flack for this, but I didn’t like the Throne of Glass series. I remember liking the first book quite a bit, but then after reading the second I consciously made the decision to not continue with the series. I think eventually I’ll give it another try, but at this point it’s not a top priority.

2. A popular book or series that everyone else seems to hate but you love.

Okay, I had a hard time with this one because it’s usually the other way around (see question 1–I could have put a lot of different books up there). I wouldn’t necessarily call my choice a “popular” book, but I chose Instructions for a Broken Heart by Kim Culbertson. I gave it four stars and remember liking it quite a bit, but on Goodreads it only has 3.3 stars with some pretty scathing reviews.

3. A love triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did NOT want them to end up with (warn people for spoilers) OR an OTP that you don’t like.

I’m going to steal Deanna’s answer for this one: Anna and Etienne St Clair from Anna and the French Kiss. Just…no. He cheated on his girlfriend with Anna. There’s nothing about that situation that is romantic. End of story.

4. A popular genre that you hardly reach for.

LGBT books are super hot right now and I think for good reason. It’s so awesome that authors are trying to bring more diverse characters and issues into the conversation and not just with sexual orientation but with race and ethnicity as well.

5. A popular or beloved character that you do not like.

Sorry for this but I’m choosing Lola from Lola and the Boy Next Door. I’ll be honest, I just didn’t really like any of the books in this series.

6. A popular author that you can’t seem to get into.

I’m just going to say A.S. King on this one. I’ve read a few of her books and have thought they were okay…but mostly they’re just kind of weird. This type of magical realism is very strange to me. I just have a hard time figuring out what is actually real and what is just in the character’s head.

7. A popular book trope that you’re tired of seeing.

Good girl falls for and reforms bad boy. Inevitably the good girl ends up compromising some values or morals and I don’t like that (see Grease). I’m of the very strong opinion that you should never change yourself just for a boy. I’d much rather read a story about a good girl finally seeing and falling in love with the good boy who’s been there for her all along.

8. A popular series that you have no interest in reading.

Vampire Academy. I don’t know much about this series, but I’m pretty over vampires. Zero interest there.

9. The saying goes “The book is always better than the movie”, but what movie or T.V. show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?

I can’t think of any that I really and truly prefer to the book, but I absolutely LOVE the movie version of Austenland. I love both the movie and the book equally, but differently.

I tag anyone who wants to do this!

BOOK TAG: Burn, Rewrite, Reread Book Tag

I was tagged by Aimal @Bookshelves & Paperbacks. She’s awesome and has one of the prettiest blogs IMO, so go check her out!

RULES:

  • Randomly choose 3 books. (Use the ‘random’ option on your Goodreads read shelf).
  • For each group, decide which book to burn, which one to rewrite, and which to reread. (A lot like Kiss, Marry, Kill.)
  • Repeat until you’ve completed three rounds.

Round 1

Reread: Austenland by Shannon Hale. I’ve already reread this book once and will be rereading it for a second time for a book club I’m in so…also I practically watch the movie on a daily basis.

Rewrite: Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier. I know that this was originally written in another language, but there are some plot things I’d rewrite.

Burn: Six Impossible Things by Fiona Wood. This book was just okay. Honestly, I feel very “meh” about it.

Round 2

Reread: Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Beautifully written and an incredible story. If you haven’t read this book yet, it should definitely be on your bucket list.

Rewrite: Firefight by Brandon Sanderson. I like this book, I really do. But I think I might make a couple of tweaks here and there.

Burn: The Forsaken by Lisa M Stasse. I honsetly don’t remember much from this book so…if I had to burn one of these three this would be the one. But I’d rather not burn any of them.

Round 3

Reread: What Happened to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen. Because Sarah Dessen is queen.

Rewrite: Getting Over Garrett Delaney by Abby McDonald. I actually remember liking this book quite a bit, but I’m sure there were at least a couple of things that I would change.

Burn: Spousonomics: Using Economics to Master Love, Marriage, and Dirty Dishes by Paula Szuchman and Jenny Anderson. I think I read this not too terribly long after I’d gotten married and it helped to put some things in perspective maybe…but can you really apply economics to marriage? In some cases, but I probably wouldn’t use this as a marriage bible.

That was actually quite fun! I tag whoever wants to do it!

BOOK TAG: The Coffee Book Tag

Well…I don’t actually drink coffee, but that’s okay. I can still do this tag, right? I was tagged by Jess @Once Upon a Book Review. You should go check out her blog if you haven’t already!

BLACK: A SERIES THAT’S TOUGH TO GET INTO BUT HAS HARDCORE FANS.

A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin – I’m super intimidated by these books but I feel like the fandom (thanks, in part, to the T.V. show) is pretty huge. Eventually maybe I’ll get around to trying this series out? We’ll see.

PEPPERMINT MOCHA: A BOOK THAT GETS MORE POPULAR DURING THE WINTER OR A FESTIVE TIME OF YEAR.

I don’t have a specific pick for this (though Jess, who tagged me, picked Harry Potter and I have to agree). But I do love that everyone seems to gravitate towards scarier books around Halloween. It makes the entire holiday very…atmospheric.

HOT CHOCOLATE: FAVORITE CHILDREN’S BOOK.

Inkheart by Cornelia Funke – I love these books so much. I feel like I found them at a really pivotal moment in my early years and they set me on track to be the voracious reader that I am today.

DOUBLE SHOT OF ESPRESSO: A BOOK THAT KEPT YOU ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT FROM START TO FINISH.

Bird Box by Josh Malerman – I don’t read horror because I’m a big scaredy cat. But I had to read a horror book for one of my library school classes so I chose one that didn’t have any ghosts or evil spirits in it. Even so,this book was super intense. There were some moments where the reader can relax, but they are few and far between.

STARBUCKS: A BOOK YOU SEE EVERYWHERE

Colleen Hoover in general – I have yet to read a Colleen Hoover book, mostly just because the NA genre doesn’t really appeal to me all that much. But I feel like I see a review post for one of her books at least three times a day.

THAT HIPSTER COFFEE SHOP: A BOOK BY AN INDIE AUTHOR (A SHOUTOUT)

K.M. Shea’s Timeless Fairy Tales series! These books are seriously awesome and no one knows about them. If you like fairy tale retellings, you have to check these out. I love how each book is a standalone, but they all tie together as well. You can catch up with some of your favorite characters in later books. It’s really great. Seriously, go read them.

OOPS! I ACCIDENTALLY GOT DECAF: A BOOK YOU WERE EXPECTING MORE FROM.

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins – I know, everyone loves this book (and this series). But I just don’t. I cannot get over the fact that St. Clair is basically cheating on his girlfriend the whole time. I never understood why it was so hard to just break up with her? Anyway, this series is just not for me. Sorry, not sorry.

THE PERFECT BLEND: A BOOK OR SERIES THAT WAS BOTH BITTER AND SWEET, BUT ULTIMATELY SATISFYING.

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness – If you’ve read it, you understand.

GREEN TEA: A BOOK OR SERIES THAT IS QUIETLY BEAUTIFUL

The Comeback Season by Jennifer E Smith – I highlighted so many passages from this book on my Kindle. Jennifer E Smith is a really talented writer and I think you can see that in all of her books, but this one really takes the cake. Her writing combined with the poetry that is baseball is pure perfection.

CHAI TEA: A BOOK OR SERIES THAT MAKES YOU DREAM OF FAR OFF PLACES.

Firebird trilogy by Claudia Gray – This one’s on my mind because I just finished book #2, but through these books we get to “visit” places all across the U.S. and Europe. I love learning about the different Multiverses.

EARL GREY: A FAVOURITE CLASSIC

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen – Does this really need an explanation?
