Awards, glorious awards

Hello everyone! I’ve been super busy just with work and life and whatnot so I haven’t had time to do any award posts. At this point, I just don’t think I have time to do all of them, but I did want to acknowledge all of the wonderful people who liked my blog enough to nominate it for something! Thank you thank you thank you!

Thank you to the 100 glorious people who saw fit to follow my blog! I’ve only been writing for about a month and it feels great to know that there are 100 people out there in the world who want to read about my bookish opinions besides my husband and my mom!

USED - 47104-100followers

Sparklers for everyone! As a quick thank you, I’m going to spotlight my 100th follower:

November Rose @roundedbookends

Only a couple reviews up so far, but I love the WordPress theme! It’s very girly, fun, and most importantly clean looking. It even has a slightly modern edge to it which I love! The reviews include Genre, Setting (I love this!), Author, Recommended Ages, and of course a Rating.

I’m very much looking forward to reading more from this blogger so why don’t you guys head over and check them out!

Versatile Blogger Award

versatile-bloggerJay @The Wolf of Starbucks has very kindly nominated me for TWO awards. The first was the Versatile Blogger Award and then a renomination for the Creative Blogger Award! So I’ll list my seven facts for the VB Award and then five bonus facts for the renomination of the CB Award.

RULES:
– Thank the person who gave you this award. That’s common courtesy.
– Include a link to their blog. That’s also common courtesy.
– Next, select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly. ( I would add, pick blogs or bloggers that are excellent!)
– Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award
– Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.

FACTS:
1) I love food. I like eating out and trying new flavors, I like watching cooking competitions, I like tasting yummy things…but I hate cooking. Not the actual cooking part, but I don’t like having to think about what to make and then how long it takes to actually do it and then cleaning up afterwards…not my favorite (but obviously I do it or else we’d starve).
2) If I had a million dollars, I would take myself and my husband on an MLB tour. We’d go see a game in all 30 stadiums. Maybe a whole series even. It’d be fun.
3) My husband and I are big believers in Dave Ramsey. He’s a finances guy who has his own podcast and has written a few books. He’s all about living debt free and investing in retirement and living like no one else today so that you can live like no one else later. Give him a listen if you’re unsure about how you’re doing financially (I was not paid to give this plug, we just really like Dave).
4) When I was little my grandma used to feed me cough drops like they were candy. They still seem like candy to me.
5) I don’t like Oreos. The cookie’s okay, but I think the cream is so gross.
6) My favorite dessert is pie. I LOVE pie. I always like to have birthday pies instead of birthday cakes. However, my husband does NOT like pie. He’s okay with cream-filled ones, but my favorite (peach or triple berry) he can’t stand. There’s something about baked fruit that he doesn’t like. So I can’t make pies anymore or else I’d be the only one eating it.
7) I participated in a program called Running Start in high school. It’s where you go to the local community college your Junior and/or Senior years of high school. You simultaneously get high school and college credit. My parents really liked this program because free college. But I know some people who don’t like because high school experience. Honestly, I don’t really feel like I missed out on anything.

BONUS FACTS:
1) I used to have a big thing for Converse shoes. I had like ten pairs. That was in high school and when I got to college I kind of got over it. I’m down to three pairs now.
2) I was born on Easter Sunday.
3) I did Pole Vault in high school. I regret not taking it more seriously. I wasn’t very good, but I think if I had practiced more/harder I could’ve been pretty good. I had a really good coach.
4) I have a BA in Economics which I don’t really plan on doing anything with. I chose the major because I liked some of the technical classes (Price Theory, Industrial Organization) and I liked some of the theory classes too (Economics of Education, Behavioral Economics). But the class that you actually would use in an Econ job (Econometrics) I hated and didn’t try as hard as I should have.
5) I went basically an entire year without reading. Freshman year of college. It was the worst! Then I got my Kindle and that changed EVERYTHING.

NOMINATIONS (for the Versatile Blogger Award):
Ann @Math, Books, and Hobbies
As I Lay Reading
Adventures of a Dublin Bookworm
Tabrizia @A Cup of Tea With That Book Please
Jessica @Novel Escapism
Leah @Leah Rose Reads

Once again, just trying to spread the love around and not nominate the same person twice. Just know my readers, I love ALL of you. Happy reading!

Creative Blogger Award

img_5694

A few days ago Erika @Erika the Bibliophile nominated me for the Creative Blogger Award! So give that link a click as a thank you to her from me! The rules are as follows:

  • Nominate 15-20 blogs and notify all nominees via their social media/blogs
  • Thank and post the link of the blog that nominated you (very important)
  • Share 5 facts about yourself to your readers
  • Pass these rules on to them

Facts first…
1) I prefer to do crosswords in pen even though I’m not that good at them (I just don’t like the way pencil smears).
2) I’ve donated my hair twice to the Locks of Love organization. The last time I did it they cut my hair unbearably short, so next time I’m going to wait until my hair is REALLY long.
3) I love Dr. Pepper (but really, who doesn’t?)
4) I used to work at this place called the Awful Waffle. It’s closed now, but man. Those were some good waffles.
5) I started this blog because I felt like I needed to have a purpose for my reading. I’ve always loved to read, but once I’d graduated from college it felt like I was reading for no reason. Thus my blog was born.

Alright nominations…
Rachael @Reading Rachael
Kristen @Bookworms and Fangirls
Anne @Books Baking and Blogging
Tori @Popcorn and Prologues
Liz @Cozy Corner Book Blog
Taylor @Novels and Nail Polish

There are really so many creative bloggers out there, but I tried to nominate different ones than I did for my Liebster Award post. Love you all and keep reading!

Liebster Award

LiebsterAward_3lilapplesI have been nominated for the Liebster Award by Emma over at SheReadsBooks. Her blog is definitely worth a look if you’re not already following her!

The Rules

  • Thank the person who nominated you and link their blog.
  • Give your readers 11 random facts about yourself.
  • Answer the 11 questions from the blog who nominated you.
  • Nominate 11 bloggers to receive this award.
  • Come up with 11 questions for your nominees!

The Facts

1. I’m currently obsessed with button up shirts (so comfy!) and watches (classy and functional!)
2. I graduated in December with a BA in Economics, but I totally would have gone for Library Science if I’d known it was a thing coming out of high school. Alas, I did not.
3. But…I will be applying for grad school this summer and hope to get my Masters in Library Science.
4. I got married when I was (barely) 20. My husband’s name is Jack and he’s wonderful and lets me read as much as I want 🙂
5. My dad is 100% Chinese while my mom is half Panamanian and half White. This resulted in us kids having a variety of fun cultural experiences growing up.
6. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) and I LOVE to answer questions about my religion!
7. I work in HR right now, but my dream is to become a librarian (I know, dream big right?)
8. I love baseball (thanks to my husband). Favorite Teams: Seattle Mariners, Oakland Athletics, San Francisco Giants
9. I grew up in the Seattle area (thus my affinity towards the Mariners), but I don’t like the Seahawks.
10. I’m the only one in my immediate family (parents and two siblings) who did not choose to attend the University of Washington for college. Instead, I decided to head on down to Utah to go to BYU.
11. I used to be in Elementary Advanced Placement classes. This made me think I was special until I got to junior high and realized that kids from the normal classes could get into honors classes too (and get better grades than me).

The Answers

1. Who are your top 3 favourite authors?
Right now…Sarah Dessen (reminds me of high school), Jennifer E Smith (instaread), and Jane Austen (so classic).

2. What character would you like to have as your Best Friend or Side Kick?
Cath from Fangirl. She’s so normal and fun and a little insecure, but overall just awesome!

3. If you could meet any actor that played a character from a book/s, who would it be?
Emma Watson. She just seems fiery and like an interesting person.

4. If you could choose one author to write the story of your life, who would it be?
Jane Austen. She would definitely make me wittier than I actually am.

5. What was your least favourite book ever?
Oh gosh…basically anything from Sophomore English. One that immediately comes to mind is O Pioneers! by Willa Cather. I’d probably appreciate it now (maybe) but at the time I was bored out of my mind.

6. What is one book that you love, but everyone else on the planet hates?
Lord of the Flies, also from Sophomore English. I don’t think a ton of people hate this book (it is a classic after all), but I don’t think a lot of people like it because it’s not very happy…and at times disturbing.

7. What is your favourite book that is not in the Young Adult genre?
The Monuments Men (you can see my review for it here). I don’t read very much outside of YA, but I loved this book.

8. If you got to play a YA book character in a movie or TV series, who would it be?
Maybe Lara Jean Song from To All the Boys That I’ve Loved Before…there aren’t very many YA books centered around Asian girls (that I’ve read at least).

9. What was the shortest time it took you to read a book?
A few hours. I can generally read a 300 page book in 3-4 hours if I’m really into it and there are no interruptions.

10. Which book do you believe should receive more hype?
Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson. I thought this book was so great! It’s a fascinating world with interesting characters, but I feel like I rarely see anyone talking about it!

11. What is your all-time favourite standalone novel?
For now…I’d say Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson (review here). I really enjoyed how much the main character grew throughout the book.
