Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic and this week’s topic is: Summer Reads Freebie
Summer used to be this great time when I didn’t have to go to school and I could just relax and read ALL THE TIME. But then I grew up and got a full-time job and now I don’t actually have any extra time to read during the Summer. Summer is now just like any other time of the year *sigh*. Can anyone relate to this???
Despite all of that, I still have some books that I’m hoping (fingers crossed!) to get to this Summer just to have an arbitrary deadline. Here are my top ten picks (links to Goodreads):
1) Once and For All by Sarah Dessen – My husband pre-ordered this one for my birthday and I’m SO EXCITED.
2) Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor – I picked this up a few weeks ago at B&N and I’ve only heard good things!
3) The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken – I follow Mandy Moore on Insta and I guess this is being turned into a movie and she’s in it? So I’d like to read it sometime before the movie comes out.
4) Ash and Quill by Rachel Caine – I really love this series! I have the ARC on my Kindle right now and I can’t wait to dive into it!
5) Beastly Bones by William Ritter – I read the first one last year and have books two and three on my shelf, I just haven’t had time to continue the series even though I liked the first one.
6) The Weed That Strings the Hangman’s Bag by Alan Bradley – Similar story as Beastly Bones–I have pretty much this whole series and LOVED the first book, I just need to keep going!
7) Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han – I liked the second book less than the first book, so I’m hoping this third one really does it for me (and has about ten times the Kitty).
8) Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake – This was one of my most anticipated books, but I honestly kind of forgot about it. Hopefully I can still get to it this summer though!
9) A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman – My mother-in-law really loved this book and my mom is also reading it right now. I think it’ll be a nice departure from my norm.
10) Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab – I was just scanning my Goodreads to find a #10 and I didn’t realize how soon this book comes out! So pumped!
Once and For All is at the top of my summer YA TBR! I’m excited to see it on your list. 🙂

I have had Three Dark Crowns sitting on my bookshelf just begging to be read. I really need to get on it! Love your list. I’ve had a few of the others on my TBR for a while. The Darkest Minds has been on my Goodreads for what feels like forever. Hopefully I’ll get to it before it turns into a movie.
Great list!

Thanks! I’d say about half (at least) of these on my list have been sitting on my bookshelf FOREVER. I just need to get to them!

It makes for a great reading list when you get bored! My hubby and I have the same problem. We both buy and buy and buy and then don’t read them. I always have books at my fingertips! ❤

So excited to see Strange the Dreamer on your list! That book was fantastic and a new favorite of mine. I also want to read The Darkest Minds before the movie comes out.

I’m so glad to hear that! I really loved Laini’s first series, so I’m super excited to read this one!

Thanks, I do too! And I hope you get all of yours read as well. I especially loved Six of Crows and Daughter of Smoke and Bone, so I really hope you enjoy those!

Thanks! That’s good to hear, I have a good feeling about both because my friend loved them and her reading taste is very similar to mine.

A Man Called Ove is on our book club list for the fall, and I can’t wait to read Strange the Dreamer! The Lara Jean books and Three Dark Crowns are on my list too.

I know! Every time I pass my bookshelf, Strange the Dreamer is just sitting there judging me…but I just haven’t had time to pick it up yet!

I’m trying to read backlist titles this year as part of the Novel Knight’s Beat the Backlist Challenge, so I’m trying not to read books that came out this year. So far, I’ve only read Carve the Mark, so I’m doing well. But I’m still behind. Trying to make it through the Throne of Glass books, and I thought I’d be done with them by now.
By the way, how’s library school coming?

That’s so admirable! I don’t think I’d be able to do that though haha. Thanks for asking about school! I actually graduated in December, but before my last semester started I was offered a full-time position in HR where I’d been working…so I’m not currently working at a library unfortunately. Hopefully someday!

I have so many books I’ve been meaning to read, it hasn’t been that hard actually. Congrats on graduating! Sometimes you have to take the jobs that come your way, but I’m sure you’ll find a position in a library when you least expect it.

I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Always and Forever. I hesistate with that one because I was too fond of the second book, but seeing it everywhere, makes me want to pick it up!

That’s so funny because I honestly liked the first one better I think. I’m looking forward to it though, I just hope it pays off! It’s just a little strange because the series was only supposed to be a duology, right? So I just wonder if there’s really more story to tell or if Han just felt like she needed to keep a good thing going.

I don’t know. I always thought it was supposed to be a standalone and then they decided on a duology and then suddenly it was a trilogy. Publishers, I tell ya.

Haha that’s definitely possible. And yeah. Dang publishers. I’m so tired of the whole trilogy plus five novellas that we all have to pay for trend. Just give me the whole story in one book!

Once and For All sounds really good, but so does A Man Called Ove. Nice list. Here is my Top Ten Tuesday

The Darkest Minds is becoming a movie? I didn’t know that. I need to read that series too now. It’s been sitting on my shelves for a long time. And I just received Always and Forever Lara Jean and I’m excited about reading that one. I know what you mean, I liked the first, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, much better than the second. So I am hoping for a turn around with this latest and final installment. Fantastic list!

Yeah! I just looked it up on IMDB. It looks like it’s supposed to be out September 2018 and Amandla Stenberg is in it too!

I remember the first time I didn’t get a summer off or a Christmas vacation. So sad!! I recently got Strange the Dreamer from the library and read the prologue and didn’t get any further than that. I didn’t actually read the blurb, I just followed the hype and the pretty cover and requested it. Not sure if it will be for me. But I still think I want to try it some time.

Start with “A man called Ove”. I loved it! My review: https://fictionophile.wordpress.com/2014/08/26/a-man-called-ove-by-fredrik-backman/

Thanks for the input! I’ll definitely move this one to the top of my list. Everyone I know who’s read it has loved it!

Just started Ink and Bone. Really was moved by the idea of what life would be like if the Alexandria Library was still around. My friends think I have gone off the deep end but to think all those words lost forever unable to speak to our souls…. Ok I’ve might have gotten too involved.
