Top Ten Tuesday: Hyped Books That I Haven’t Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic and this week’s topic is: Top Ten Hyped Books I’ve Never Read

I’m going to divide this into two categories: Books I still want to read and books I don’t think I’ll end up reading. Bonus at the end will be some hyped books that I’ve been disappointed by.

  1. I have An Ember in the Ashes and The Wrath and the Dawn in my list too. I’m planning to read them as well. And I have no inclination to read Gone Girl or Game of Thrones either.

  3. A Court of Thorns and Roses, An Ember in the Ashes were both great reads! P.S. I Still Love You wasn’t bad either. 🙂 I really want to read The 100, especially since I’ve started to watch a few of the episodes of the show. I have yet to read Red Queen & Dorothy Must Die, it’s too bad they were disappointments for you. :/ Great list though!

  4. Oh shoot. You have a few books that disappointed you that I was looking forward to reading. (Dorothy Must Die and the Anna series.) I’ll have to look at your reviews again on those.

    I loved Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, but those types of books are right up my alley. TFIOS was excellent, but I didn’t read it until I was in the right frame of mind (I knew it would be sad and had to be ready for tears.) I haven’t read any others by John Green though.

  5. I just finished An Ember In The Ashes and it was good. I must say I wish it was just a standalone book like it was supposed to be but theres going to be a 2nd now. I’ve had Dorothy Must Die sitting on my shelf for a while to read, I’m surprised you were disappointed in it.

  6. ACOTAR and An Ember in the Ashes were such great books! 🙂
    I am really looking forward to read The Wrath and the Dawn.
    I have A Game of Thrones, but I’m not sure if I am ready to read it yet. I want to, but then when I look at how long it is…I don’t know that I want to invest so much time into it, lol.

  7. I’m so glad I’m not the only one who felt disappointed by The Anna series! They were cute enough, but not anything that you wouldn’t expect from your typical contemporary. The female leads (although I’ve only read the first two books) really annoyed me with some of their decisions. As for your top ten list – though you said you weren’t planning on reading them – I would definitely recommend Eleanor and Park and TFIOS. They’re so much more than your typical, cheesy, YA contemporaries, and they’re some of my favorite books. Of course, it’s completely up to you, but I would recommend giving them a shot. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. 🙂 Great post!

    1. Thanks! I feel like I could see myself reading The Fault in Our Stars eventually, but my decision not to read Eleanor and Park is based off of the amount of language there was in just the first chapter. Kind of a turn off for me. I’ve definitely heard really good things about it though!

      1. Oh, I completely understand with your concerns about Eleanor and Park. I definitely probably wouldn’t have even considered reading it after that if I hadn’t been in a long car ride with my sister pressuring me to read it. 🙂 It definitely is edgier YA and the swearing throughout it did also take away some of the enjoyment as well, but I still really liked it. I hope you enjoy The Fault in Our Stars if you end up reading it. 🙂

  9. I read The Fault in our Stars because Kiara loved it and I wanted to connect with something she loved. Despite the sad overarching direction of the book, I really liked it. And I avoid sad stories when I can. I thought it was a very sweet depiction of young love and of the importance of living each day to the fullest. It actually left me more hopeful than sad. This was my favorite quote because it perfectly captures the way I felt with Aaron: “I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.”
    Gone Girl is the other one on that list I read. I was reading it on a plane to Mexico with Aaron and I vividly remember the moment the bomb drops mid-story. I love twists like that! The end left me unsatisfied but I’m still glad I read it for the twist. If that part has been spoiled for you, it may not be worth the read but otherwise I’d recommend it.

    1. I actually haven’t heard very much about Gone Girl, but the synopsis wasn’t very gripping to me so I didn’t pick it up. I could see myself reading The Fault in Our Stars eventually…but it’s not high on my reading list. Especially since I wasn’t very impressed with An Abundance of Katherines by the same author. That is a great quote though.

  10. Great list! ACoTaR and Wrath are both amazing books! I hope you get to them soon! If you put Game of Thrones in your second category because of the size, I assure you, the size doesn’t matter once you dive into the story. But I see what you might mean; it does seem like a huge commitment. Even so, I highly recommend the series. ❤

    1. I’ve really enjoyed the books by Rainbow Rowell that I’ve read–Fangirl is one of my faves. My decision to not read Eleanor & Park is completely based off of the amount of language that was in the first chapter (that’s as far as I got). Just not really my thing. I’ve heard lots of good things about it though!

  12. I just finished reading Eleanor & Park and really loved it! I was a little surprised because of all the hype but it was great. I still need and want to read all of the 5 you listed as “still to read”.

  13. Oooh ok I didn’t like Eleanor & Park very much at all. I have a disdain for The Fault In Our Stars because I read it when the hype was at it’s peak and was sorely disappointed. I did like Gone Girl a lot but I’m also a sucker for psychological thrillers so some of it’s flaws didn’t bother me at all.
    I haven’t read any of the first five books you listed (and I probably should get to them). Actually, finishing the Throne of Glass series first might be better than starting another Maas series…

  14. Dorothy Must Die disappointed me, too. I thought Gone Girl and The Fault in Our Stars were excellent, but both movie adaptations did a fair enough job at capturing the stories.

  15. I can so relate to your post, I’ll likely read ACOTAR later this year and hope to start P.S. I Still Love You next week. Plan to read GoT when I finish WoT with a friend. Hope to read Gone Girl and Red Queen at some point, depends when I can fit them in. I also listed the Anna and the French Kiss trilogy just because I really don’t read much contemporary.

  16. I think Eleanor & Park and The Fault in Our Stars would be worth reading. Both Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train were kind of boring. Well, Gone Girl was good once you got to the twists. If you see the movie, you don’t need to read it. Same with Game of Thrones.

    1. I didn’t feel like the main character development was very strong. Also, I’m not the biggest fan of love triangles (especially when two brothers are involved). Mostly, I felt like there was a lot of potential, but it wasn’t quite reached. I reviewed it a while back if you’re interested in reading more. You can just search Red Queen in my search bar.

    1. Thanks! I absolutely LOVED Fangirl, but my decision not to read E&P is based off of the amount of language that was in the first chapter. Just not really my thing. I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about it though!

      1. Yes, Fnagirl was fantastic! I absolutely HATED all the language in E&P (although I think there was probably just as much in the first eighth of the book as there was in the rest of the book), but the rest of the story was really good. Honestly, the language is really necessary to the story, much as I hate to say it. I hope you do end up picking it up eventually, but if you don’t like it, I could understand that point of view.   21. Ember in the Ashes is really good! It is so exciting!!! Of course if you want some fluff, you’d love P.S. I Still Love you! Did you like TATBILB? 🙂 I’m currently reading The Wrath and The Dawn. So far so good!!!! You should def give Eleanor and Park a try, it was really heartbreaking. love it!! Also, I’m sad you didn’t like Unbecoming (my sister didn’t like it that much too) but I loved it. Also Steph’s books (though Anna is my fav among the series) I’m looking forward in reading ACOTAR. They say it’s really good! Have you read her other books though? 🙂
