May TBR Checkpoint

I’ve been doing a surprisingly good job sticking to my TBR this month! Here’s my May TBR:

ARCs
A School For Unusual Girls by Kathleen Baldwin – Read and reviewed
From a Distant Star by Karen McQuestion – Read
Uprooted by Naomi Novik – Read
They Call Me Alexandra Gastone by T.A. Maclagan – Currently Reading, hope to finish up this weekend
Spelled by Betsy Schow
Boywatching by Chloe Bennet

Other Books
My True Love Gave to Me edited by Stephanie Perkins – Read and reviewed
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins – Read and reviewed
The World Before Us by Aislinn Hunter – Currently Reading
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
Firefight by Brandon Sanderson

Three TBR jar titles
1) Little White Lies by Jodie Esch – Read
2) An Abundance of Katherines by John Green – Starting this weekend
3) Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen

It’s halfway through the month and I’d say I’m about halfway through my TBR list too. Excuse me while I give myself a pat on the back. I’m still a little up in the air about whether or not I like doing these. On one hand, I do feel like I HAVE to get these books read (but not in a way that’s unenjoyable necessarily). There’s just a little added pressure to read. On the other hand, I like having the structure and it keeps me from the “staring at the refrigerator” syndrome. “Mom, there’s nothing to eat (read)….”And it gives me a sense of accomplishment too! Anyway, still deciding.

How are your TBR lists going?

  1. Perhaps you should consider utilizing your monthly tbr list as more of a guideline than as a rule. It gives you structure, but allows you the freedom to adjust your reading plans as you want. Maybe that will help you feel better and more excited about your reading. Happy blogging and reading!

  2. I think TBRs are great for giving yourself a direction to go in. Sometimes if I don’t set a TBR I end up staring at my bookshelf for hours thinking what to read next?!
My TBR is going extremely well also and I’m pretty mic halfway as well, considering there are only 5 books in my TBR!

  3. Are you a Sarah Dessen fan? I have to say that Saint Anything was fun but not TAF or Just Listen spectacular. But it’s great you’re plowing through these books successfully. I never could have a set monthly TBR, I read way to slow! 😛

    1. Yeah I am! I don’t really expect any of her other books to live up to The Truth About Forever haha, but I am still excited to read it! Also, a TBR list doesn’t have to be that long! Just as long as you want/can manage.

      1. Good point! I think my TBR pile would be pretty pathetic though. 😛 Now, with school and work, I read only 4 books a month at the most. But I do aspire to read as much and as fast as you do in the future one day. 🙂

  4. My TBR list has started to get away from me this month because I keep adding more and more books to it.

I just started using a monthly calendar to map out my blog posts, which allows me to try to set due dates for certain books. If it’s something coming out soon it gets moved to the top of my list, while older books or ones with later publishing dates get moved to the bottom of the pile. So far it seems to be working.

      1. Yep! I already know that Tuesdays and and Fridays will have posts because of the memes I’m participating in, so I just try to map out my reviews around that. New titles usually come out Tuesdays, so I often set my reviews to publish on the Monday before. Then I just fill in the space around stuff with reviews of older books or anything else I might feel like writing.
